Most recommended things to do for Beijing nightlife

For most visitors, tour may be ended when night comes, but if you want a deep travel to Beijing, you should be aware that Beijing is actually more vigorous and real at night. So when you are taking Beijing tours, do try to experience the beauty of night Beijing.

The nightlife activities for Beijing locals varies a lot: the youth may prefer bars, clubs, KTVs, sport events while seniors like to watch opera shows in theatres or excise in the garden or park.
We highly recommend tourists try the following activities at night when travel in Beijing, and I believe each activity might be a unique experience.

Dinner/Midnight snack at a street-side restaurant
This is the most local activity in Beijing and China. A family or a group of friends sit together eating, drinking and chatting. For most Chinese people, this is considered to be the most relaxing moment of a day.

Mutton kebabs are Beijing’s best-loved meat treats and can be found either on street stalls or in Muslim and non-Muslin restaurants. Juicy chunks of fatty mutton are barbecued over charcoal often heated by hand-held hair-dryer, then sprinkled with a light coating of cumin and chilli flakes. The fat keeps the moisture in and adds flavor. During summer time, people sit together in or outside of a restaurant drinking cold beers accompanying with mutton kebabs, roast chicken wings, duck neck, fried peanuts and other cold dishes etc. Don’t worry about the food quality of these restaurants: most restaurants are staying popular just for the reason of the quality and flavor of the food they offered.
It is a polite way in China for host to take guests out for late night snack especially in summer time. So please don’t feel uncomfortable when the host insists you for a midnight snack for they are just concerned about you going to bed hungry. If you have problem drinking or eating at night, just explain it to them so as to avoid misunderstanding.
If you are traveling in Beijing and tired of eating in hotel restaurant, just try the street-side restaurants for a dinner or midnight snack with your family or your friends, because this is the way local people does.

Bars/clubs
Sanlitun and Houhai are the two hottest bar streets in Beijing. Beside these, Wudaokou and Luoguxiang are other great options which are really worth a visit.

Sanlitun is a famous embassy area in Beijing and its best location has brought up the prosperity of Chinese and international clubs and bars. Now there are hundreds of clubs, bars and restaurant gathering in Sanlitun area and it has been recognized as the best place for international tourists to hang out in Beijing. The most famous bars in Sanlitun include: Mix, VICS and Pavillion etc.

Houhai lies within the 2nd Ring Rd Beijing beside two famous sights: Beihai Park and Drum Tower. Houhai also has the best scene of Hutong (Courtyard), so different from Sanlitun, this place not only offers its visitors stylistic bars and restaurant, but also nice scene of Houhai Lake and Hutongs. Stylistic bars: Amber bar, Blue Lotus and Houhai 5 Hao bar etc.
Wudaokou is located within the university area of Beijing. As there are large number of international students studying in nearby universities (such as Beijing Language and Culture University, Qsinghua University and Peking University), Wudaokou becomes the living center and amusement center for those foreign students. Popular bar: Propaganda
Luoguxiang is the oldest Hutong district where was once the dwelling center for the rich and high officials during Qing dynasty. During recent years, this area has gained enormous popularity among domestic and international visitors for its large number of newly-built unique bars, shops and restaurants, and the different flavor of old Beijing Hutong. Popular bar: Hutonger bar.

Watching performances at theaters, teahouses or concerts
Many people who once traveled to Beijing may have watched Peking opera show I believe. They did right for Peking opera is the national treasure and it is a good way to learn Chinese profound history and culture. But apart from Peking opera, there are lots of other nightlife activities which are very popular among local Beijing people.

If you are first time to China, Chinese Kongfu and acrobatic show are other must see performances. The hottest venue for Kongfu show is Red Theater in Chongwen district. The Kongfu show is made by Kongfu masters who mainly come from Shaolin temple, the birthplace of Chinese Kongfu. The Legend of Kungfu is the most popular production in Beijing’s Red Theatre. It was recognized as the best martial arts dance production in China in 2005. Their skills and fantastic performances will surely leave you a unique memory of your Beijing travel. For dramas, Beijing People’s Art Theatre is the best choice. Or if you want to drink tea while watching art performances, you can try teahouses leaded by Laoshe teahouse. For those who like to enjoy music in a elegant concert, the newly built venue, National Centre for the Performing Arts, is certainly your first choice, not only because the venue is the upgrade of world theatres, art stage and architecture, but also because the figures performing at this stage are world known and their performances top the world.

Massage in a health care center
If you are too tired to hang out, try to take massage in a health care center in Beijing. There are many health care centers offering all kinds of massage services from foot massage, whole body massage, Chinese medicine massage to international massage etc.
The largest ones are Liangzi, Hanfangzhou and Fuqiao Health-care service. These health care centers have numbers of branches in different districts of Beijing, and they are very popular with people from and outside of Beijing. Their reasonable prices, great varieties of massage services and different Chinese therapies they adopted in massage have gained them stable customers and wide recognition.

KTV Party
Please go to KTVs if you want to sing and party when you are traveling in Beijing China. Don’t worry about the languages. Most KTVs offer English language services and large selections of English songs.
KTV is very popular among Chinese young people and these KTV venues are always packed with people on weekend for off-work party or friends gathering. Most KTVs offer nice buffet lunch or dinner, so customers can enjoy a nice meal while party together.
There are lots of KTVs in Beijing, among them Cash Box Party Beijing, Tong Yi Shou Ge, Tango, Melody and Haoledi are the most popular ones. These KTVs are chain stores and insure service qualities. To party in Beijing KTVs are usually not expensive. If you don’t order wine, it usually cost about RMB50-150 per person for 4-6 hours party.

Sports game watching
Apart from Beijing Olympic Games, have you ever watched other sports games in Beijing? If you haven’t, try to watch a game and enjoy the different sports games with passionate Chinese people.
Most sports games are taken place at night for the reason that most people are off work at this time. There are some professional league marches which are very popular among Chinese people and these leagues are formed by different local clubs and rank by points for the season championship. The super league are the highest level and those games are always having many people’s attention: such as CSL(China Super League for football), CBA(China Basket Association), CTTSL(China Table Tennis Super League) and CVA(China Volleyball Association) . There are always many sport stars who may represent their clubs playing at the league games, such as Yaoming (Huston Rocket NBA, former player of Shanghai Sharks Club CBA), Yijianlian (New Jersey Net NBA, former player of Guangdong Hongyuan Club, CBA), Zhangyining( Olympic Gold Medalist, Beijing International Sports Club CTTSL) etc, and many audiences are not just coming for supporting their local teams, but also for their favored stars. The price for these domestic league matches is about RMB20-100 per ticket so that many people could afford that.

Beijing also holds many warm-up games, friendly matches and commercial matches between China teams and international teams. These games are usually charging more money for about RMB40-400 per ticket. But since these international games having the presence of not only Chinese sports stars, but also international stars, these games are always having the great attention of Chinese people and international visitors and their tickets are always in short supply.
It usually takes about 2 hours for a game. Don’t worry about the food and drinks, because there are many grocery stores inside and outside of the stadiums. Usually they won’t allow audiences bring drinks in to the stadiums. What’s more, they always offer free cheering stick, air horn, hand clapper etc to audiences to cheer for your preferred team and athletes.

There are certainly a lot of other activities which should be worth to try at night. So next time when you travel to Beijing, do try some local activities.
